An Intimate Look At Everyday Folks' Relationship with Porn

Every once in awhile, a piece of art comes along that resonates so strongly with a feeling you have about a particular subject that you basically wish you'd made it yourself.

This for me, is one of those things.

More to come, but in the meantime: enjoy.

Wet Dream Alert

Destroyer - Kaputt from Merge Records on Vimeo.

One of our lovely Lickety Split contributors, Monogamie, alerted me to this video on FB. It's like all of a sudden I'm a gentle-yet-horny 14 year old boy who's a little pissed at his mom for pulling the blinds back while I'm secretly watching an American Apparel ad.

Man, parents just don't understand, do they?

California Gays to Wash the Rain Away

It's raining here in New York, and as I dream about dryer climates and teeny-weeny bikinis, this uber-gay parody of Katy Perry's California Gurls feels just about perfect pitch. When Perry released this sugar-coated, gittery, candy-colored orgy of a video a couple of weeks ago, we were so appalled by horny gummy bears and a decided "un-street" Snoop Dog cameo, that we didn't have enough brain cells to pay attention to the song's lyrics. Not that this is necessarily advisable, mind you, but it is interesting to note how a trio of dancing twinks can give a hot injection of fun into what may inevitably become that song you can't stop singing in spite of yourself.

Paging Control-era, Janet: These California Gays are totally fine, fresh, fierce, and dying to be back-up dancers in your next video.

Thank You!

Hey Guys,

Thanks to all of you who have been supporting Lickety Split over the last few months by coming to our dance parties. Last night's Spring Break '98 party was a huge success and we're feeling cool as cucumbers about being able to cover our printing costs.

XXX
Lickety Split smut zine

P.S. For those of you who couldn't make it or simply want to relive all the 90s awesomeness, here is a classic that had me dancing like nobody's business!

What's a Word's Worth?

I think I'm in love! A "Wordy Rappinghood" cover by Chicks on Speed? Yes, please.

I've been on a pretty tight writing deadline over the past few days and during my dancearoundmyroom breaks I've been listening to the Tom Tom Club version of this song on a loop.

My favourite line: "Words are like a certain person--don't say what they mean, don't mean what they say."

Seriously, I want to have an art orgy with all the members of chicks on speed and Tina Weymouth from Tom Tom Club where we're all clad in asymmetrical paper dresses and yell out catchy lyrics about semiotics as we're cumming. David Byrne can join in too.

Added bonus: "Glamour Girl" by Chicks on Speed.

Can these women do no wrong? I love the trashy, European dance video from the 90s feel almost as much as I like making fun of myself while I sing this song.

Work Issue Muse: Depeche Mode's Master and Servant

In response to Jenny's enthusiastic post about Nouvelle Vague's cover of "Master and Servant," I've decided to post the original. Well known for their ability to make you think of dark, sexy, forbidden things faster than you can whisper your safe word, Depeche Mode excels at fetishizing power relations every time lead singer Dave Gahan opens his mouth.

This song and video in particular comments on the oppressive everyday power relations that make our (capitalist) world turn in a way that reflects some of the thoughts I've been having about what kind of content I'd like to include in the upcoming work issue.

Folks who take a pro-BDSM stance often talk about the way in which these everyday oppressive power relations can be subverted through sexual play. Depeche Mode says "it's a lot like life."

I think I'll be listening to this quite a bit while I try and come up with the kinkiest way possible to bring representations of capitalist exploitation to their knees in the next issue.

If it Ain't Steamy, It ain't Sexy

Ok, folks, here it is: as promised, two more work related vids in honour of our upcoming issue. And, I must say, after a very limited amount of research, I am completely convinced of America's fetishization of blue collar work-particularly that of welders and steel factory workers.

Think what you will about this trend, according to the evidence, there's something downright naughty about people sweating and panting and working with their hands.

First up we have the iconic video for "Maniac," one of the main theme songs of everyone's favourite stripper with a heart of gold movie, Flashdance. Welder by day, sexy dancer by night, Alex Owen's lifelong dream is to become a professional dancer, and I'm pretty sure everyone else's lifelong wet dream is to get closer to those maniac thighs so prominently displayed in the video.

Next up, we have, of course, Madonna. Never one to let a ripply man waste away on the sidelines of life when he could be her lover/top/1920s, Metropolis-industrialization fantasy, she takes this video's sad, sexy steel worker and turns him into the Jesus Luz of the late 80s.

Work It-The Lickety Blog Challenge!

In honour of Lickety Split's freshly released call for submissions--and in anticipation of receiving all of your naughtiest work related musings--over the next month and a half I'm going to be posting as many work related music videos as I possibly can.

It's gonna be tough folks. I'm probably gonna sweat and it might get a little grimy. My partner will complain that I need to stop watching youtube and take a shower but, deep down, I know the sweet sweet satisfaction of a job well done will keep me going. Wanna help a girl out? Holla any suggestions to Sarah@licketysplitzine.com!

To kick things off, let's recite the immortal words of Missy Elliot:

Girl, girl, get that cash
If it's 9 to 5 or shakin' yo ass
Ain't no shame, ladies do your thang
Just make sure you ahead of the game

Bonus: Ciara's Work, featuring Missy Elliot.

Gettin' down at the construction site, checkin' out the hot ladies in their hard hats, oh yeah.

Holy Tornado Tongue, Batman!

Special thanks to The Green Nebbish for alerting me to this strange, slobbery video for Depeche Mode's, A Hole to Feed. What starts out as a creepy tribute to 90s rave fashion and glitter make-up, turns into a full on mustard lick-a-thon faster than you can say hold the onions.

P.S. That girl with the braces? Hot.

Weekly(ish) Video - Sugalumps

Love, love, luuuuuuve Jermaine and Brett! Also, I'm pretty sure this should be my lover's theme song considering his penchant for flaunting the sugalumps around our house like nobody's business. Dude, it's okay to wear underwear sometimes. I won't forget about them later, I promise.

Full disclosure: I haven't actually watched the second season of Flight of the Concords yet, but apparently this clip is from the episode where Jermaine becomes a street hustler. This could indeed be problematic, however, I don't really see anything problematic about enjoying the serious dance breakdown in this vid. Jermaine has such a pro head roll going on I should be taking notes for my burlesque performances.

A Burger in Paris

Warning.

This is a pretty fluffy post--most likely brought on by too many hours staring at a blank screen and waiting for inspiration to strike so I can get the fuck out of school and listen to T-Rex all summer.

As you may or may not remember, this Carl's Jr. commercial--which consists mainly of an over-the-top-cheesy Paris Hilton slithering around on a Jag and then biting into a massive burger-- caused quite the stir a couple of years ago, and was ultimately labeled "too hot for TV" and subsequently banned.

Judging from Paris's stunning debut as sex-tape-scandal-starlet and pretty much everything else she's done since, our Lady Douche or whoever manages her "career," certainly seem have the modus operandi of "all press is good press" which I may or may not be contributing to right now as I write this.

Shit.

Anyway, I got a paper to write, so there's no going back. Here, for your viewing pleasure, is some uncut velveeta courtesey of Paris Hilton and the douche bag school of douche baggery.

How Naked Are We Gonna Get?

Khaela Maricich of The Blow is totally adorable and highly fuckable. Check out this video of her singing a song about first fuck jitters in the middle of a train station.

Will your next lover be prepared for how incredibly white you get when you finally arrive?

Did I mention she's Miranda July's best friend? Jealous.

Weekly Vieo -- Sexy Music!

Straight from the emerald isle -- bowl mullets, cigarillo mics, ill-fitting pleated satin onesies, awkward reverse-ostrich dance moves (2:20), and rouge, rouge rouge.

It's the Nolan Sisters!
