The Onion's Take on Porn and Plan B

Here are two little tidbits courtesy of The Onion:

First up, Plan C, an emergency anti-contraceptive that allows you to "reduce the chance of aborting pregnancy after unprotected sex (ie, if a regular birth control method succeeds and you have a sudden, dramatic change of heart)."

And, now that you've been guilted out of your choice not to carry an unplanned pregnancy to term, make sure your beloved child doesn't catch wind of any of that pornography stuff. Makes kids think sex is enjoyable!

Study: Children Exposed To Pornography May Expect Sex To Be Enjoyable

Protect Your Vag and Your Modesty

Are you as sick of the word vajayjay, as I am?

Seriously, people. Vulva. Vagina. Labia. Clitoris. Get used to it.

Apparently, the creators of the new Va j-j visor (I kid you not) didn't receive the memo about the annoyance of this Oprah-coined term that allows you to talk about uh, you know, down there without ruffling your lady feathers.

According to Va j-j Visor H.Q., this totally useful-looking and not at all ridiculous piece of plastic is designed to protect your poontang during such pain-inducing procedures as waxing, shaving and pubic hair tinting.

Related, is Sarah Haskins' take on that oh, so subtle shick razor ad I mentioned awhile back.

Dating Advice from Zinesters

I have a soft spot for their quick read Miss Information column and This Week in Sex horoscopes. Last week, in a Lickety-pertinent post, they asked a bunch of zinesters for dating advice.

Questions include, "What's the best way to pick up a zinester?" and "Zinesters are creative and cool--What's a creative and cool idea for an awesome first date?"

Do you have any sure fire methods for getting a sexy zinester from the stuffy church basement to your basement (apartment/dungeon)?

Dead Dolls in a Book!

This past fall, Montreal Gazette columnist Bill Brownstein had a book published with a whole little chapter on the Dead Doll Dancers!

Entitled, Montreal 24: Twenty-Four Hours in the Life of a City, it celebrates a batch of the writers, musicians, restauranteurs and artists that make Montreal such a vibrant and interesting place to live.

On April 25th, Brownstein will be reading from his book at Blue Metropolis--a bilingual festival celebrating books and writers.

From the potty mouth of Velma Candyass:

"The Dead Dolls were interviewed by this writer awhile back and his book has since been launched. A whole chapter was written about us and the very special venue we perform at [Cafe Cleopatra!!]. Come on down to hear him and meet some of the personalites he has written about (including us !)."

Yep, that's right, some of the DDs will be on hand to schmooze!

Monday Ballad Courtesy of Cyndi Lauper

Cyndi Lauper is so hottttt. A style icon for several generations of hep kids and a woman who can sing a song about masturbation with all the subtlety Madonna lacks, she also has a softer side.

Well, not too soft. Whether she's grooving in the middle of the highway sans heels or passionately serenading the mic in a killer polkadot dress, it's totally alright with me.

Girlfriend: (Upon hearing sexy voices) What are you doing?

Boyfriend: Definitely not watching rock climbing porn.

(Yes, folks, rock climbing porn does exist, as does curling porn and golf porn).

Boyfriend: Want a vegetarian chicken finger?

Girlfriend: What are you trying to get at, here?

Save Women's Studies at the University of Guelph!

In case you don't already know (but I bet you do), Women's Studies departments are often the birth places of some of the best radical queer, gender fuckery and activism around. We read Judith Butler, then we read Viviane Namaste, then we're all like "how do my political practices relate to improving peoples' everyday lived experiences" and then BAM, it's a glittery, performance art filled zine launch where high irony consists of statements about how objective science really is.

Ok, perhaps I'm making fun of us a little here, but there are definitely no fun and games going on over at the University of Guelph, where the Women's Studies department is on the chopping block.

According to the facebook group created by students at Guelph:

"Women's Studies might be cancelled! There's a word for that and it's BULLSHIT."

If you agree with this statement, put your name on the online petition and help save Women's Studies at Guelph!!!

Daft Bodies!

If only we'd known about these awesome peeps before so we could have had them perform at the LS Beyond Human issue launch.

This is definitely going to be my pick for the next highly fuckables list.

A Burger in Paris

This is a pretty fluffy post--most likely brought on by too many hours staring at a blank screen and waiting for inspiration to strike so I can get the fuck out of school and listen to T-Rex all summer.

As you may or may not remember, this Carl's Jr. commercial--which consists mainly of an over-the-top-cheesy Paris Hilton slithering around on a Jag and then biting into a massive burger-- caused quite the stir a couple of years ago, and was ultimately labeled "too hot for TV" and subsequently banned.

Judging from Paris's stunning debut as sex-tape-scandal-starlet and pretty much everything else she's done since, our Lady Douche or whoever manages her "career," certainly seem have the modus operandi of "all press is good press" which I may or may not be contributing to right now as I write this.

Anyway, I got a paper to write, so there's no going back. Here, for your viewing pleasure, is some uncut velveeta courtesey of Paris Hilton and the douche bag school of douche baggery.

Well, I don't have a whole lot to say about Shick's latest razor ad for women , but that certainly didn't stop other ladies out there in the blogsphere from trashing this "sexist, racist, vag-hating video" (Feministing).

Oh, yeah. The pretty blond girl is holding a hairless cat and trimming around her tulips.

Real subtle.

I'm predicting the big bush come back around 2020, how 'bout you?
