A State of Nature

Direct quote from Tom Fennario, director and playwright:

"Well, it just so happens that I've been putting together a one act play with
some people I know. These people will be moving around a stage saying words
that I told them to say, and sometimes there will be moving images behind
them. If I wanted to sound like a jerk, I might call it a multi-media
performance piece. But instead I call it "A State of Nature". Pretty good,
huh? It's playing at Mainline Theatre next week. Attached is a fancy flyer,
but the gist of it is that it's playing at 3997 St.Laurent from Thursday
Nov. 23 to Sunday Nov 26, 8pm starts all around with 2pm matinees on Sat.
and Sun. So come to see the sprawling extent of my genius, or come to see me
fall flat on my face. Either way it should be interesting, hmmmmm?"

Gifts!

Gifts seem to pouring in in all these fascinating packages and ways! One of the most holiday-like joys of indie culture is that people put their heart and soul into something as simple as a letter.

Jay Morrit played drums with us a coupla times at our practice space. After he saw my short video "Lyric for Our Home Song (video sketch)" at the Super Reel Dames Festival, he went away and mailed a CD of his music to me. Inside the paper casing with what looks like a charcoal rubbing of his likeness on the cover, are dried leaves and bits of paper with seemingly disjointed words and phrases on them, sort of littered. The songs themselves are beautiful and folky and this was such a joy to receive! The image pictured here is a still from the Super 8 film I made called "Lyric for Our Home Song".

In additon my partner came back from Xalapa, Mexico with all sorts of cool stuff: a poster of Frida Kahlo from the poster festival, a Day of The Dead mask (as it was the Day Of The Dead fest down there the same time as the film festival), feather earrings, a handmade smock shirt as well as bottles of booze!

Submissions for the The Daughters of Joy! Film and Video Festival are trickling in and I'm so happy! So special to have people share their work and want to take part of your initiative.

People are ordering the zines from all over the world, using indyish.com or mailing me their requests with thoughtful drawings worked into the letter.

If you'd like to mail in a submission for Lickety Split or the film festival, or just want to share your own erotic zines and mail art, I would LOVE to receive them at:
Lickety Split
P.O. Box 1783, Station H
Montreal, QC

Thanks, and so much love right back atcha!

Xalapa, Mexico, Canzine, Marcil Review, Mailing List, Festivals and more!

Dearest ones,

It's getting cold outside and it's time for us to hudle together and wrap ourselves in fuzzy seaters and long underwear- a Canadian kind of sexy.

Down south in balmy Xalapa, Mexico, my partner Keykode is presenting a program of Canadian films including my own video Lyric for Our Home Song (video sketch). If you are in Xalapa, you should go check it out. Otherwise, I will be releasing my two tea related films in the Distroboto eventually.

I was in Toronto for Canzine last week selling Lickety Split and had the pleasure of finally meeting Lickety Split's web designer Sean in person. Then I promptly asked him to do table duty while I snagged some grilled cheese upstairs. There was a lovely review in Broken Pencil of LS #3 as well as an excerpt of the story by Tom Fennario from that same issue. Check back for updates on the press page.

Also, the Marcil Review, a new PDF-based APA I am a part of, released it's first issue for Fall 2006. If you would like to download the free copy, e-mail me your address and I will send it to you. a (at) licketysplitzine (dot) com

Do check out the submission guidelines for the Daughters of Joy! Film and Video Festival to be inaugurated at the next Lickety Split launch in February.

To join the Lickety Split Mailing list, e-mail me your e-mail address and I will add you poste-haste.

We have a calendar on the LS website, but another calendar you should check out is on the indyish.com Calendar Page for hip happenings all over Montreal and beyond!

...and finally, Worn Fashion Journal is launching in NYC this weekend so check her out!
