For those of you who like a little teeth

Is this taking the recent vampire revival to a whole new level, or what? Ever thirsting (sorry) to exploit the latest craze, this fleshlight in a soda can (wtf) is purported to really get your blood pumpin'. Just whip it out and soon your Eric Northman fantasies will be that much more vivid-or so they promise:

Polish up your stake and drive it into this soft, vampire mouth for an orgasm that will wake the living dead. Packing the same punch as the original Fleshjacks but housed in a compact soda can and featuring the exclusive Vampire Fang inner canal texture not found on any other Fleshjack product.

"An orgasm that could wake the living dead" - Sounds like the Dead Dolls will be getting a lot more bookings in the months to come.

Complete with a smutty photo gallery of some lucky dude getting his ahem, "stake polished," as well as a sexy video (which, sadly, I could not embed), the Count Cockula website is a must see.

Promise me you'll check it out, if only so you can come back and explain to me the connection between "a cum shooting experience so terrifying" and a soda can. Again, wtf.

Iran in My Heart

Have you checked out Marjane Satrapi's graphic novel Embroideries, yet? It's been out for a little while now and I finally devoured it in one sitting this past weekend. An intimate, humourous and intelligent portrait of a few Iranian women's views on sex, love and marriage, it is a must read.

Alcohol: Women's Favourite Aphrodisiac?

An article in this week's BUST Newsletter, mulls over the "facts."

'Cause "women" is clearly a homogenous category and no one's ever seen Don Draper throw back a few before engaging in some car crashing infidelity.

Watch out ladies who've slept with more than 8 men-you're a slut.

Also, all women are heterosexual.

2 Hot Transsexuals Finally Give some Answers!

"Has someone ever asked you a question that feels invasive? Has a complete stranger ever made assumptions about your life? Do people tell you that your name and pronouns puts a strain on their lives? Red and Charles answer some of these challenging questions!" - freshlycharles

So. Awesome.

Who's Hotter? The Undead Edition

Being home sick the last few days has given me time to ponder some of life's important questions. Unfortunately, the feverish brain isn't always the best judge of what qualifies as an "important question," and in this case, the brain-scrambling, gray matter liquifying, ideologically blindsiding subject I've been considering is--who's hotter, Spike or Angel?

So, stop for a second with those Bill Compton and Eric Northman debates and remember the ontological struggle you experienced when faced with a decision between Louis and Lestat. Then, remember how the whole Louis/Lestat question was disqualified due to the burned-in-your-memory portrayal of both of these characters by none other than the extremely unsexy Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise, respectively. Ok, no judgement here. It's cool to get hot over what gets you hot. Be proud, nuff said. But, seriously, if you do think either of those hunks of celluloid is the spiciest spice on your Mexican pizza, do you ever really tell anyone?

Ok, I digress. Clearly, my complete lack of the hots for B.P. and T.C., respectively, as well as my valiant call for respect for the original vamps of prime time, demonstrates the unwavering importance of the Spike vs. Angel query. There you have it. Rational. Relevant. Of the upmost importance in a world filled with viral vampire media marketing campaigns.

One's got a chip in his brain, the other's got a soul.

One has a cockney drawl, the other a terrible (and I mean, terrible) Irish accent.

Both have rollicking tempers and washboard abs.

Who will it be, people? I'll let you decide.

Get "Person"alized

'Cause you know ladies, nothing says personhood like having a fella give you a set of panties with his name on them.

Ok, maybe it is a tad sexy to be holding the name of your lover so close to your love bits, but just remember to subvert ideas of ownership people.

With the additional duties of conducting ongoing research into potential advertisers as well as the creation and maintenance of our ad contact database, creativity is a must, as is the ability to work autonomously and in collaboration with the Lickety Split team. Previous experience is an asset, and while this is an unpaid gig, there is future potential for commission based on total sales. Lickety Split smut zine Seeks Fundraiser Fantastico!!

Lickety Split smut zine is searching for self-motivated, organized and outgoing volunteer to help us make our fundraising dreams come true!

If you’ve got the ideas and the chutzpah to make them a reality, we want to hear about it!

As always, the ability to work autonomously and in collaboration with the Lickety Split team, volunteers, and especially our event planner, is a must — as is a keen sense of what makes people open their wallets and pull out their chequebooks. Now is an especially exciting time to be part of the Lickety Split team and, as the zine grows, we are looking for someone to help us expand our revenue streams to include sponsors, grants and promotion of membership and subscriptions. As fundraiser, your main responsibilities would include:

  • Planning and organizing fundraising events alone and with the Lickety Split team
  • Approaching and maintaining relationships with current and potential sponsors
  • The creation and maintenance of Lickety Split's sponsorship database
  • Ongoing research into applicable grants and similar revenue streams
  • Development of membership and promotion of subscriptions

Though this is currently an unpaid gig, refreshments, space and time will be available as well as major kudos, high fives and freebies along the way. Each issue of Lickety Split relies heavily on the revenue generated by fundraising and your contribution in this capacity is essential to our production!

I can't decide whether this is simply a useless invention intended to separate (no pun intended) women from their earnings $55 at a time, or really just some dude's titty fucking fantasy gone terribly awry.

Either way, I'm pretty sure this type of strangely objectifying material deserves its own category on the blog, which I am now christening dah...dah...dah...dah: The Kush Factor.

Aloe-Va-It!

Friends, I have made an excellent new lube discovery.

Often plagued by sensitive lady parts that would force me to forgo sexy-times for weeks on end, I was recently thrilled to become reacquainted with the slippery healing power of Aloe Vera--this time in relation to my impatient vagina.

Let's face it. The glycerin in most water-based lubes is essentially sugar and, if you suffer from irritation from chronic yeast infections or a highly exuberant partner sex/self love regimen, other lubes--as natural as they claim to be--can sting and burn and put a disappointing end to happy times.

The great thing about Aloe, as I've discovered, is that not only does it provide quite a bit of moisture comparable to popular brands like KY Jelly, but it also soothes dryness and irritation, making it a terrific two- in-one dealio. Just make sure you get the colour and preservative free stuff, or better yet, a bedside Aloe plant, and you'll be ready to slip and slide and heal all at once!

Final note: while this discovery has not yet been tested for efficacy in non-vag related scenarios, it soon will be, and I encourage you to check back for more thoughts on the subject. Also, while I can talk jive like a pro, I'm no medical expert and I encourage you to use your own discretion in deciding whether it's time to seek some extra help in the name of your sexual health.

Boobies! Nipples! Out of this World!!

The title of this post, while at once being what I feel is a truthful and sound statement regarding sweater kittens, is also an actual ritual exclamation that me and my best sleepover twin used recite in order to describe our 9-year-old awe at what might possibly befall us post-puberty.

After a swim at the pool, with our mothers safely out of earshot, we would do our ceremonial walk around the changeroom, making sure to stop pointedly at each of a dozen or so mirrors and, with slightly shocked looks upon our tiny faces, incant "Boobies! Nipples! Out of this world!"

Don't ask me how this started. Girlhood rituals can be mysterious things, even to their performers. What I do know, is that while there may have been a mild element of bewildered wonderment in these musings, there was also joy and appreciation for the possibilities of womanhood. A sort of tribute to the complexity that comes with having a more "developed" body, as well as a rejoicing in the mostly care-free existence of not being there yet--of being able to giggle and huddle together and to run around public spaces howling like mad women who shared a great secret.

Updates, Updates

Oh, wowie, oh, zowie--how has the summer flown by so fast?! It seems like just last week we were getting ready to take this naughty little zine on an adventure to Brooklyn and now it's been more than a month since our last update. Bad, bad mistress of smut! I should be spanked. Hard.

So, along with promising never to abandon you like that ever again (!), I'd like to tickle your curiosity and stir up some of that ever-festering smutty energy by letting you know that there are some exciting developments happening here at Lickety Split.

First off, the NYC zine fest was a huge success. Not only did we have the thrilling experience of seeing new folks fondling purchased copies of the zine, but we were also able to network with some truly cool zine makers and artists and generally experience a hot, rejeuvenating injection of DIY pride. Zine culture rules!

Next, this spring, we were honoured and happy to be approached by Microcosm Publishing, and as a result, Lickety Split is available for wider-than-ever-before distribution on their website. Check out LS and other awesome zines here.

Finally, Lickety Split is looking to bring some fresh, new energy to our team in the form of event planners, bloggers and advertising gurus. Keep your eyes peeled for our formal call-outs and, if you're interested in writing for the blog, why not shoot a writing-related CV straight away to sarah@licketysplitzine.com.

What's more? Well, that's not even the half of it! Check back for pics from the NYC zine fest as well as reviews of some of the smutty and sex positive publications we picked up while there.

Keep those dirty thoughts coming and thanks for supporting Lickety Split!

Save Montreal's Red Light District!

Ok, folks. Shit is going down right now in Montreal's red light district. As Angus developers move closer to the date of fruition on their proposed "development" of the Quartier des Spectacles, the livelihood of the area's sex workers and the existence of historic businesses on le coin are being seriously threatened.

As articulated by scholars and activitsts concerned with sex workers rights, "revitalizing" areas known for prostitution only serves to further isolate sex workers-- making them less accessible to their regular clientele and leaving them more vulnerable to violence. Furthermore, the threat to such sex positive, queer and trans friendly establishments like Cafe Cleopatre is an assault on Montreal's rich tradition of cabaret--one which, during the 1950s when sex reassignment surgery was illegal in Canada, provided a space for transsexual women to work and live as women.

Currently, there are two more public consultation meetings where you can have your say in regards to these proposed "developments."

"As indicated last night in their presentation and responses to various concerned citizens at the first public consultation meeting (organized through the Office of Public Consultation) Angus development does not care about retaining a relationship with the history of the red light district nor with merging their architecture with the surrounding remaining buildings. Angus dev. never intended for the term "cleaning up" to be attached to their efforts, as "this is a new epoch", they do not want to "re-vitalize" this sector but tear it down so that nothing remains of what it once was.

To keep this brief, I urge anyone who is concerned about cultural elitism, gentrification, sex workers rights, travesty theatre, historical architectural, expropriation etc etc. to GO to the next public consultation meetings held at The Hoilday Inn in Chinatown, 95 Viger Ouest and ask questions!" -Amy Rae Hudston

Weekly(ish) Video - Sugalumps

Love, love, luuuuuuve Jermaine and Brett! Also, I'm pretty sure this should be my lover's theme song considering his penchant for flaunting the sugalumps around our house like nobody's business. Dude, it's okay to wear underwear sometimes. I won't forget about them later, I promise.

Full disclosure: I haven't actually watched the second season of Flight of the Concords yet, but apparently this clip is from the episode where Jermaine becomes a street hustler. This could indeed be problematic, however, I don't really see anything problematic about enjoying the serious dance breakdown in this vid. Jermaine has such a pro head roll going on I should be taking notes for my burlesque performances.

Blow to Make Bigger

Check out these 'aww shucks-clever' promotional balloons for an exhibit on "Exploring the Pleasures of Oral Sex" at the NYC Museum of Sex. Astutely, several bloggers have already pointed out the need for balloons with female identified people on them. After all, grrrls do like the muff-diving.

Kinda makes you wanna start designing your own series of sexy genderqueer balloons, doesn't it?

Happy Belated Mother's Day!

Woof! Pets in Porn

Maybe you've been there. You and your loverrrr are getting frisky, making a little amateur porn and then, all of a sudden, Mr. Fluffertons wanders into the shot.

Apparently, pets making unexpected cameos in sex vids is so prevalent these days there's now a site dedicated to documenting their porn debuts.

The Onion's Take on Porn and Plan B

Here are two little tidbits courtesy of The Onion:

First up, Plan C, an emergency anti-contraceptive that allows you to "reduce the chance of aborting pregnancy after unprotected sex (ie, if a regular birth control method succeeds and you have a sudden, dramatic change of heart)."

And, now that you've been guilted out of your choice not to carry an unplanned pregnancy to term, make sure your beloved child doesn't catch wind of any of that pornography stuff. Makes kids think sex is enjoyable!

Protect Your Vag and Your Modesty

Are you as sick of the word vajayjay, as I am?

Seriously, people. Vulva. Vagina. Labia. Clitoris. Get used to it.

Apparently, the creators of the new Va j-j visor (I kid you not) didn't receive the memo about the annoyance of this Oprah-coined term that allows you to talk about uh, you know, down there without ruffling your lady feathers.

According to Va j-j Visor H.Q., this totally useful-looking and not at all ridiculous piece of plastic is designed to protect your poontang during such pain-inducing procedures as waxing, shaving and pubic hair tinting.

Lovely.

Related, is Sarah Haskins' take on that oh, so subtle shick razor ad I mentioned awhile back.

Dating Advice from Zinesters

I have a soft spot for Nerve.com--especially their quick read Miss Information column and This Week in Sex horoscopes. Last week, in a Lickety-pertinent post, they asked a bunch of zinesters for dating advice.

Questions include, "What's the best way to pick up a zinester?" and "Zinesters are creative and cool--What's a creative and cool idea for an awesome first date?"

Do you have any sure fire methods for getting a sexy zinester from the stuffy church basement to your basement (apartment/dungeon)?

Let us know!

Dead Dolls in a Book!

This past fall, Montreal Gazette columnist Bill Brownstein had a book published with a whole little chapter on the Dead Doll Dancers!

Entitled, Montreal 24: Twenty-Four Hours in the Life of a City, it celebrates a batch of the writers, musicians, restauranteurs and artists that make Montreal such a vibrant and interesting place to live.

On April 25th, Brownstein will be reading from his book at Blue Metropolis--a bilingual festival celebrating books and writers.

From the potty mouth of Velma Candyass:

"The Dead Dolls were interviewed by this writer awhile back and his book has since been launched. A whole chapter was written about us and the very special venue we perform at [Cafe Cleopatra!!]. Come on down to hear him and meet some of the personalites he has written about (including us !)."

Yep, that's right, some of the DDs will be on hand to schmooze!

Monday Ballad Courtesy of Cyndi Lauper

Cyndi Lauper is so hottttt. A style icon for several generations of hep kids and a woman who can sing a song about masturbation with all the subtlety Madonna lacks, she also has a softer side.

Well, not too soft. Whether she's grooving in the middle of the highway sans heels or passionately serenading the mic in a killer polkadot dress, it's totally alright with me.

Boyfriend: Definitely not watching rock climbing porn.

(Yes, folks, rock climbing porn does exist, as does curling porn and golf porn).

Two

Boyfriend: Want a vegetarian chicken finger?

Save Women's Studies at the University of Guelph!

In case you don't already know (but I bet you do), Women's Studies departments are often the birth places of some of the best radical queer, gender fuckery and activism around. We read Judith Butler, then we read Viviane Namaste, then we're all like "how do my political practices relate to improving peoples' everyday lived experiences" and then BAM, it's a glittery, performance art filled zine launch where high irony consists of statements about how objective science really is.

Ok, perhaps I'm making fun of us a little here, but there are definitely no fun and games going on over at the University of Guelph, where the Women's Studies department is on the chopping block.

According to the facebook group created by students at Guelph:

"Women's Studies might be cancelled! There's a word for that and it's BULLSHIT."

If you agree with this statement, put your name on the online petition and help save Women's Studies at Guelph!!!

Daft Bodies!

If only we'd known about these awesome peeps before so we could have had them perform at the LS Beyond Human issue launch.

This is definitely going to be my pick for the next highly fuckables list.

A Burger in Paris

Warning.

This is a pretty fluffy post--most likely brought on by too many hours staring at a blank screen and waiting for inspiration to strike so I can get the fuck out of school and listen to T-Rex all summer.

As you may or may not remember, this Carl's Jr. commercial--which consists mainly of an over-the-top-cheesy Paris Hilton slithering around on a Jag and then biting into a massive burger-- caused quite the stir a couple of years ago, and was ultimately labeled "too hot for TV" and subsequently banned.

Judging from Paris's stunning debut as sex-tape-scandal-starlet and pretty much everything else she's done since, our Lady Douche or whoever manages her "career," certainly seem have the modus operandi of "all press is good press" which I may or may not be contributing to right now as I write this.

Shit.

Anyway, I got a paper to write, so there's no going back. Here, for your viewing pleasure, is some uncut velveeta courtesey of Paris Hilton and the douche bag school of douche baggery.

Well, I don't have a whole lot to say about Shick's latest razor ad for women , but that certainly didn't stop other ladies out there in the blogsphere from trashing this "sexist, racist, vag-hating video" (Feministing).

Oh, yeah. The pretty blond girl is holding a hairless cat and trimming around her tulips.

Real subtle.

I'm predicting the big bush come back around 2020, how 'bout you?
