Calling all artists, fallen women, playboys, rakes, trollops and strumpets! Arm yourselves with a camera and submit your lascivious, libidinous and salacious motion picture creations to Lickety Split smut zine’s first ever Daughters of Joy! Film and Video Festival.

Lickety Split smut zine, Montreal’s own pansexual and sex-positive smut zine, is interested in promoting film and video that chooses to be forthright and frank in their explorations of gender and sexuality. We believe it is important to showcase artwork by different and brave artists in order to offer radical suggestions regarding the nature of difference and desire. Daughters of Joy! Film and Video Festival will be inaugurated at the launch of Lickety Split #4 in Montreal (Quebec), February 2007.

We encourage everyone to explore their own unique perspective on the intersection of sexuality / gender / eroticism. Members of traditionally disadvantaged groups are encouraged to submit. We encourage submissions from transgender people. This festival is free-to-submit and non-competitive.


Submission Guidelines:
- Submissions must be DVD or VHS format.
- Accepted screening formats include 16mm, Super 8 and miniDV
- Max length 15 minutes
- Tell us about your film and yourself and anything else you think we’d like to know about
- Include your name and contact information
- Include a self-addressed, stamped envelope if you want submissions returned
- Submission deadline: January 15th, 2007.

Been a bit of a crazy time around here! Sean is almost finished the website (he's waiting for me to complete the links page content), and the Friday before last I handed in the CALQ grant application that had been giving me heck. Last Sunday, I walked with Head & Hands in the annual Walk for Life and it was fun! My buddy T-Y and I dressed up in costume as "Lickety Split's Tools Fer Change" and were basially sexy, dirty blue collar workers! We raised some cash-money, but if some people wanna do the credit card thang, our page is still up and available! At the walk I was impressed to see the women over at Stella cheering and raising a fuss so early on a Sunday morning! The beautiful Seska, was walking with them, so maybe that had something to do with it.

In not-so-great news, I will not be giving a erotic writing workshop on McGill University's Sexuality Fair Day- it was pulled for it's potential for contraversy in light of recent media tarnishings of McGill. Also, my business plan proposal (cleaned up of course as a "journal of sexuality, gender and the arts"!) was pulled from the pile being offered to John Molson School of Business students. The premise of the project was that YES and Concordia's business school were working together to hook-up young entrepreneurs (such as myself )with graduating students in order to devise viable business plans. Students would have the opportunity to select which projects they would, or would not, like to work on. Unfortunately, this option was not offered to the stud's in my case as some folks on Concordia's side decided to pull it. This was not a particularily contraversial propsal- I mean YES approved it for the project in the first place. I suppose this gives the zine more street cred? I may write an article about this soon.

UK film artist GUY SHERWIN will make his long-awaited debut appearance in Montreal for a series of performance, screenings and lectures beginning on September 19, 2006. A key figure in British experimental cinema for more than three decades, Sherwin continues to make films that offer glimpses into a stunningly beautiful and poetic universe through the quintessential properties of cinema: light moving in time.

Guy Sherwin's films have been widely exhibited in England and abroad, as part of 'Film as Film' Hayward Gallery 1979, 'Live in Your Head' Whitechapel Gallery 2000, 'Shoot Shoot Shoot' Tate Modern 2002, 'A Century of Artists' Film & Video' Tate Britain 2003/4; also shown on BBC2, Channel 4 and Arte TV France. Evie Farmer is a graduate of Concordia University's Mel Hoppenheim School of Cinema in Montreal. Raised on a farm
in rural Alberta and currently residing in Montreal, Evie is a dedicated scholar, activist, and artist of many media. She is eager to continue collaborating in the growth of Canadian cinema and strives to present poignant narratives and socio-cultural issues with authenticity. Her work also includes writing, photography, and erotic art.

Tom Fennario is currently writing a one act play for the upcoming Montreal Fringe Fest. His friends call him Tommy and he likes spaghetti suppers, but he's not Italian, even though his last name sounds like it is. Go figure! Eric Hanson is the embodiment of sexual virility and artistic creativity. He spews forth his thick, sticky creative juices in generous quantities. He doesn't sleep very much, as he must keep watching and waiting.

Indyish.com 24 Hour Music Video Making Challenge

For the Indyish.com Arts Weekend, Montreal musicians Telefauna, Shoot the Moon, and Sara Johnston (songstress also of Bran Van 3000) want you to make their music video!


Each band has donated a secret new song for the contest. Participants will be given one song at random on August 5th, and have 24 Hours to make the video. The band and their chosen judges will watch the videos Sunday afternoon, and favorites will be shown the night of the 6th at the Indyish Launch Party. All the videos will also be screened at a follow up wrap party, hosted by the Acting Studio of Montreal, later in August.


If you choose to embark upon this dangerous mission, be forewarned: you won't have access to the band themselves, so you'll have to get creative. You'll have to use your own equipment and be able to burn the final product onto DVD. The song, the lyrics, and a blank DVD will be the only things provided. So start scheming now!


Rope in those actor buddies, grab some film stock, start scouting (heck even shooting) your favourite Montreal locations. Prepare to make your own video masterpiece, and do it in support of- and collaboration with- some of our city's great independent artists.


Your music video can be filmed on any medium but must be submitted on dvd to be eligible for the competition. You can use your cell phone camera, or the Internet archives at Archive.org, or the old footage you have lying around. Basically, if you can make it work, anything goes.


- Every DVD submitted will be featured on the website, with clear artist and videographer credits, and links to websites.

- Winners will get screened at the launch party, and could potentially become the band's official video for that song.

- Videos made during the 24hr challenge will be compiled on an Indyish launch DVD, made available through the site. (Only the product of the 24hr Video Making will be licensed for Indyish use- once you polish the video at all, it's new thing, and negotiating future use is up to band and videographer. And more power to you.)


Cost to participate per team: 2$ in advance, 4$ at the door.

Participation is limited to 45 teams.

Distro-ing out the ying-yang and pretty pictures and apologies...

The lady in the above picture is Linda Darnell, star of the film Forever Amber which was based on the raunchy, historic best-seller of the same name, whose protagonist I was named after. After reading Forever Amber, which is the story of a young woman who lies, sleeps and cheats her way to the heights of aristocracy and is destined for destruction, I asked my mother why she named her first born after such a character. My mother's reaction was to become exasperated at my lack of respect for Amber's spirit and vigour, which she found truly inspiring. Moral of the story: Don't judge a woman by her sexual (mis)adventures + follow your cooch to the stars!

THIS lady is Heather from Eux Autres, an awesome band on the Grenadine label here in Montreal. The band is cute witty and Janet Weiss produced the new record 'Hell is Eux Autres'. ALL THIS TO SAY that I will be playing an Eux Autres track on this month's edition of Audio Smut, the monthly radio show about sex on Montreal's CKUT 90.3fm. This month's show is a first time for everything, and will take a look at early childhood sexuality, sexual firsts and virginity. It's all happening June 7 from 6-7pm, and y'all can always check out the on-line CKUT archives for past shows!
