Hi y'all,

Just a quick note to say that tomorrow Lickety Split smut zine will be on sale during McGill University's Sexuality Fair! Also, Lickety Split smut zine will be in Ottawa this weekend for Ladyfest Ottawa. I'm so pumped for this! I've always wanted to attend a Ladyfest.

I hope to have fun questionnaires all ready for folks who drop by the table.

Tomorrow is the deadline for your ideas and creations!

Tomorrow, Monday September 25th, is the submission deadline! We want your proposals, story ideas, or finished works of all kinds in before 12 midnight! You can send you work to a (at) licketysplitzine (dot) com . Tell your friends and check out the Lickty Split's website for more details.

Been a bit of a crazy time around here! Sean is almost finished the website (he's waiting for me to complete the links page content), and the Friday before last I handed in the CALQ grant application that had been giving me heck. Last Sunday, I walked with Head & Hands in the annual Walk for Life and it was fun! My buddy T-Y and I dressed up in costume as "Lickety Split's Tools Fer Change" and were basially sexy, dirty blue collar workers! We raised some cash-money, but if some people wanna do the credit card thang, our page is still up and available! At the walk I was impressed to see the women over at Stella cheering and raising a fuss so early on a Sunday morning! The beautiful Seska, was walking with them, so maybe that had something to do with it.

I have some lovely newspaper-reading friends and sometimes they keep me up to date on sex in the news- thanks to Jess and Anita especially.

First off, an interesting talk:

And Colombian Gangsters Face a Sex Ban!

In not-so-great news, I will not be giving a erotic writing workshop on McGill University's Sexuality Fair Day- it was pulled for it's potential for contraversy in light of recent media tarnishings of McGill. Also, my business plan proposal (cleaned up of course as a "journal of sexuality, gender and the arts"!) was pulled from the pile being offered to John Molson School of Business students. The premise of the project was that YES and Concordia's business school were working together to hook-up young entrepreneurs (such as myself )with graduating students in order to devise viable business plans. Students would have the opportunity to select which projects they would, or would not, like to work on. Unfortunately, this option was not offered to the stud's in my case as some folks on Concordia's side decided to pull it. This was not a particularily contraversial propsal- I mean YES approved it for the project in the first place. I suppose this gives the zine more street cred? I may write an article about this soon.

More later,
Amber

Support Lickety Split's TOOLS FOR CHANGE in the Walk For Life 2006

Support EDUCATION, PREVENTION AND RESEARCH by supporting Lickety Split smut zine's TOOLS FOR CHANGE!

We believe that education is the key to prevention in the fight against HIV and AIDS, and that is why TOOLS FOR CHANGE have chosen Head & Hands to be their beneficiary: Head & Hands has created the SENSE project, a mobile peer-based sex education program to fill the void left behind when sex ed was cut out of schools. With rising STI infection rates and a shocking lack of awareness about HIV & AIDS among youth, Head & Hands have definitely stepped up. TOOLS FOR CHANGE is part of the Head & Hands staff team network (as I am an employee of the wonderful non-profit) and TOOLS promises to turn this walk into a PARADE with our sexy mechanic and construction work outfits, grease stained skin and proactive agendas!

Support TOOLS FOR CHANGE in a way that you find meaningful, and help us achieve our goal of $1000!

You have been invited to support Lickety Split in the Walk For Life 2006 on Sep 17, 2006 9:00 AM in support of the Farha Foundation.

Secure online donations can be made with your credit card and an electronic tax receipt will be sent to you by email. You can make an online donation now:

Pony Up!

+ The Coloured Lights

this Friday, July 21st at the Bread Factory, 617 St. Remi #304, 9pm $6

This is a CKUT co-presentation and part of the St. Henri Rock Out Concert Series.
I might also mention that I am supplying yummy food for this evening, so bring some change for goodies and beer tickets. Also, this night is organized by the power house known as Sarah Mangle, who is also my Audio Smut co-host and Squirrel Girl.

Indyish.com 24 Hour Music Video Making Challenge

For the Indyish.com Arts Weekend, Montreal musicians Telefauna, Shoot the Moon, and Sara Johnston (songstress also of Bran Van 3000) want you to make their music video!

Each band has donated a secret new song for the contest. Participants will be given one song at random on August 5th, and have 24 Hours to make the video. The band and their chosen judges will watch the videos Sunday afternoon, and favorites will be shown the night of the 6th at the Indyish Launch Party. All the videos will also be screened at a follow up wrap party, hosted by the Acting Studio of Montreal, later in August.

If you choose to embark upon this dangerous mission, be forewarned: you won't have access to the band themselves, so you'll have to get creative. You'll have to use your own equipment and be able to burn the final product onto DVD. The song, the lyrics, and a blank DVD will be the only things provided. So start scheming now!

Rope in those actor buddies, grab some film stock, start scouting (heck even shooting) your favourite Montreal locations. Prepare to make your own video masterpiece, and do it in support of- and collaboration with- some of our city's great independent artists.

Your music video can be filmed on any medium but must be submitted on dvd to be eligible for the competition. You can use your cell phone camera, or the Internet archives at Archive.org, or the old footage you have lying around. Basically, if you can make it work, anything goes.

- Every DVD submitted will be featured on the website, with clear artist and videographer credits, and links to websites.

- Winners will get screened at the launch party, and could potentially become the band's official video for that song.

- Videos made during the 24hr challenge will be compiled on an Indyish launch DVD, made available through the site. (Only the product of the 24hr Video Making will be licensed for Indyish use- once you polish the video at all, it's new thing, and negotiating future use is up to band and videographer. And more power to you.)

Cost to participate per team: 2$ in advance, 4$ at the door.

Participation is limited to 45 teams.

Burlesque and The Website

Hello again!

For those of you lucky enough to have gone to the launch of the second edition of Lickety Split, you should remember the late night sexy dance stylings of the 'Oops Johnny' Burlesque troupe. They are coming back with a great evening of burlesque that you should definitely check out: Lickty launch number two was only a sample. The costumes are great, the performances often funny, always titillating and all have tons of heart.

Also: I am sending out a call for volunteers to help design the new Lickety Split website. For those of you interested in beefing up your web design resume, or have talent to share, please send your resume and get in contact with me at

Distro-ing out the ying-yang and pretty pictures and apologies...

The lady in the above picture is Linda Darnell, star of the film Forever Amber which was based on the raunchy, historic best-seller of the same name, whose protagonist I was named after. After reading Forever Amber, which is the story of a young woman who lies, sleeps and cheats her way to the heights of aristocracy and is destined for destruction, I asked my mother why she named her first born after such a character. My mother's reaction was to become exasperated at my lack of respect for Amber's spirit and vigour, which she found truly inspiring. Moral of the story: Don't judge a woman by her sexual (mis)adventures + follow your cooch to the stars!

Still looking for your Lickety Split 3 fix? We have some new locations coming your way: in Halifax you will soon be able to pick us up at Venus Envy, 1598 Barrington Street.
Also the new issue is now in stock at the Concordia Community Solidarity Coop Bookstore, at Concordia University H-127 on the Downtown SGW Campus.
Also, Come As You Are in Toronto now has the new issue in stock- what an amazing shop! Find it at 701 Queen St W.
And as always, you can find Lickety Split at Monastiraki in the Mile End district, 5478 St. Laurent just below St. Viateur.
On-line you can get Lick-ed at Indyish.com, and soon on the Lickety Split site.
More locations to cum!

I wanted to apologize for three in errors in the otherwise fantabulous new issue of Lickety Split:
- The cover artist, as always, is Sherwin Tjia, not "Tia" as it is written in one instance.
- Tom Fennario's EXCELLENT story was cut off unceremoniously, so we will be publishing it in full glory on the website which should be up by Sunday June 4th.
- Also to be published on the website: the bios of the contributors which were also accidentally cut out.

Sigh.

THIS lady is Heather from Eux Autres, an awesome band on the Grenadine label here in Montreal. The band is cute witty and Janet Weiss produced the new record 'Hell is Eux Autres'. ALL THIS TO SAY that I will be playing an Eux Autres track on this month's edition of Audio Smut, the monthly radio show about sex on Montreal's CKUT 90.3fm. This month's show is a first time for everything, and will take a look at early childhood sexuality, sexual firsts and virginity. It's all happening June 7 from 6-7pm, and y'all can always check out the on-line CKUT archives for past shows!

************ZINES ROOM************
Anger Distribution
Anchor Archive Regional Zine Project

Also, a bit more about the bookfair:

The Montreal Anarchist Book fair and Festival of Anarchy is the largest anarchist event in North America, and an important exchange of anarchist and anti-authoritarian ideas. The Bookfair is for anarchists and non-anarchists alike, in French and English, with participants from all over North America and beyond. Founded in May 2000, the bookfair is now entering its seventh year.

Anarchist Bookfair events include book and information tables, workshops, readings, films, presentations, walking tours and much more. Once again, the Anarchist Bookfair will be followed -- on Sunday, May 21 -- by a full day dedicated to anarchist-themed workshops and presentations. As in the past, a "Festival of Anarchy" will take place during the weeks preceeding the Bookfair, with diverse events organized by anarchist and anti-authoritarian groups and individuals.

Check out the website at anarchistbookfair.taktic.org.

Lickety Split 3 is born- alive and well!

The party is over, but fresh in my heart and in my my face (undereye circles, breakouts...)
The Goods was amazing, and the Heavyweight collective who were also celebrating their 8th anniversary that night (live) painted this amazing likeness of Prince- who is total sex + a guitar! Lickety Split cookies were served, and zines were stamped. Lots of people came out just to pick up a copy of the zine and go! The afterparty at Red Bird Gallery and Studios was alive for me with crazy dance beats by DJs Backdoor and Julie D, among others. I got tipsy, had fresh conversations about porn + feminism, and danced my ass off until the cops came by around 6 or 7 in the morning on a noise complaint with, like, 15 coppers and 4 cop cars and 2 vans. My friend Giddy got a ticket for resisting the evacuation and so much chaos...but motherfuckin fun!!!
Thanks to all who came out, and big thanks to Key Kode for stapling 300 zines all day Saturday and striking the Lickety Split table at The Goods while I whirled away to Red Bird.
Lickety Split #3 should be available at Monastiraki (5478 St. Laurent) and I will be mailing off copies to Toronto and Ottawa soon as well as biking all over Montreal on Friday to get this issue ditroed while she's still in heat. I will post a list of locations once they're out. Also look out for #3 on the site indyish.com soon.

*******

Along with all this excitement, the monthly sex-related radio show AUDIO SMUT that I co-host aired last night. It's a fun new show that airs in Montreal on CKUT 90.3 FM Radio McGill, which is an amazing community radio station with a diverse schedule. I am so gald to be becoming a part of this community and to be working so steadily with my two co-hosts, Sara and Stephanie!!!
The show airs the first Wednesday of every month during the regularly scheduled Hersay hour, from 6-7pm, which also airs three other right one, women-focused shows: Owl (Older Women Live), Spitfyre (women of colour), and a show for Mum's whose title escapes me right now...I'll post it later. AUDIO SMUT has a monthly theme and yesterday's was 'sex + marriage'called "Going down on the aisle". If you missed it check out the advanced archives here. Just type in the date (May 3rd) and time (from 18:00 to 19:00, or 19:05 to make sure...).

Next month's show is called "A first time for everything", and will air June 7th, from 6-7pm. Tell your friends!!!

LICKETY SPLIT 3 LAUNCH DETAILS

Lickety Split # 3 Zine Launch!
The Goods, Sala Rossa 4848 boul. St Laurent
With an after party at Red Bird Gallery 152 Van Horne
April 29th, 10pm, $10.

Lickety Split is a smut zine that comes out once a year. Each long-awaited issue is a handcrafted/collaborative/sex-positive affair with sexy silk-screened covers: a total labour of love and lust. Issue #3 is the most thrilling, smuttiest and picture-filled issue yet! Lickety Split continues to be pansexual in its approach and content in order to cater to a diverse audience, acting as a platform for different tastes to mingle and collide. There are about 20 contributors who submitted to this issue including Astria Suparak, Billy Mavreas, Shannon Gerard, Sherwin Tjia, Anita Schoepp, Evie Farmer, Tom Fennario and many others.

Lickety Split is spreading its smutty little legs for a wider audience, branching out of indie-rockdom-art-schoolery with a dance floor show to change things up a bit! The Goods is put on by two solid Montreal DJs, Andy Williams and Scott C, and this evening features guest DJ Ty G (HVW8 from LA). Afterwards, folks can head over to Red Bird Gallery for some late, late night revelry.

See you there motherfuckers.
hearts,
Amber xo
